Right the Wrong

Episode 1: The Murder of Fikile Ntshangase

Ta'Mara Hill Season 1 Episode 1

Welcome to the debut episode of Right the Wrong!

Follow the environmental justice movement to South Africa, with me, Ta’Mara Hill. We’re taking a deep dive into the story of a Zulu grandmother, whose life was taken for defending the rights, land, and heritage of her community against the expansion of a coal mine. It’s a story involving community betrayal, combating corporate interests, and above all, standing up for what you believe in.

In this episode, you’ll learn the economic and legal context of this tragedy. You'll leave remembering Fikile’s name and what she stood for, in addition to some tangible advocacy steps you can use to be involved in the environmental justice fight in South Africa. You’ll also hear about how dire the situation is for global environmental rights activists and learn why RTW is dedicating an episode a season to climate and environmental justice.
